Case Study:
Caltrans Transportation Management Center
Caltrans Command and Control Center
The new Caltrans District 4 Transportation Management Center monitors and controls San Francisco Bay area traffic. Video cameras installed on the freeways feed live pictures back to the Center, and this constant monitoring allows Caltrans to adapt to disruptions in traffic flow. It isn't hard to see why this installation is a very high-pressure application, and indeed critical to the area.

The Challenge:
Caltrans needed a high definition large display array to feature the live camera pictures from the Caltrans web site. The ability to capture and annotate over the pictures was also a necessity. This technology was needed not only in the main control room (pictured above) but in several other monitoring rooms, plus a room for dignitaries and the press to view the procedures.

The Solution:
Eight brilliant 50" Pioneer plasma displays were installed in the location, 4 of them being pictured above in the main control room. Six of these plasmas were retrofitted with interactive touch screen overlays plus software, which allows the user to completely access and control all applications, working directly at the plasma screen.

The System includes:

Pioneer 502 Plasma display panels. This model is no longer available, has been replaced by the Pioneer PDP-503CMX.
