Case Study:
New Hope
Baptist Church
Nashville, TN |
 |
This 500-member church likes to keep up with technology, and was part of a large satellite-linked simulcast from the Saddleback Church in CA - seen by 35,000 people in over 80 locations. New Hope wanted to update their projection system for this event.
The Challenge:
Let There Be Light- but this lovely church has way too much of it. So much they have had to put black tarps over the sanctuary's two beautiful stained glass windows which receive full morning and afternoon sun. What projector could stand up to those lighting conditions? The high ceiling presented mounting problems, and a projector hanging form the middle of it could be an eyesore. Where else could it go?
The Solutions:
A brighter projector, of course, but also integrated video line doubling. It is compatible with many common computer workstations, and so could be fully integrated with New Hope's existing systems. The video line-doubliing provides much cleaner, brighter video images. A long-throw lens permitted projector mounting in the sound booth! The projector's venting and heat generation, plus the need for it to be both accessible and unobtrusive for the technicians in the booth were the mounting challenges that MMS worked out to everyone's satisfaction. The simulcast was held on an incredibly sunny day...the equipment did a great job. New Hope Baptist uses it regularly in their praise and worship services.
The System includes:
• |
Proxima Pro AV 9310 with integrated video line doubling |
• |
Buhl long-throw lens |
Of special interest to Praise and Worship applications, Contemporary or Traditional
MMS has a solid background in Pro A/V for use in worship and praise. We understand that A/V in both contemporary worship as well as more traditional service is meant to enhance and support the message, not distract. We have provided systems for many churches nationwide, and are very familiar with using multimedia in worship services. From permanent installations to portable systems, which can be used in other parts of the church building, MMS has had particular success in this area. If you are building a new structure, or remodeling an existing one, MMS can help you shed new light on the way you worship - no matter what the size of your congregation is!
Many churches find that leasing the AV equipment they need strikes that balance between having (and using) the equipment, and protecting the bank balance! For a good overview on lease structuring, pros and cons, read this article!
How is multimedia used in worship?
You can project the words for hymns, congregation responses, special prayer requests, or introductions of new members. You can highlight or illustrate sermon points, religious lessons or special holiday events and messages. You can share missionary work reports, school projects or special events; news of "blessed events like births, weddings mitzvahs or anniversaries; and highlights of recent worship community events. You can also make ceremonies, such as baptisms, more participatory; recruit volunteers for special projects; use for organization celebrations, meetings and events; "visit" other congregations through pictures and sound. |
